Society of
Children's Book Writers
and Illustrators

About Us

The Brazos Valley region is a vibrant place for writers and illustrators to grow in their careers. Our region is small in numbers but big in terms of success. SCBWI-BV has many published writers and a few have received national awards in recognition of their work. We are colleagues, cheerleaders and friends on an incredible journey together to share our stories with the world’s children and young adults.

Recurring Events

Our region hosts two monthly events that are free and open to the public. Our regional meetings (last Wednesday, 9:30-11:30am) feature guest speakers sharing writing and illustration tips as well as industry news, along with a gentle critique (9:30 – 10am) and social time for members to meet and network (11-11:30ish am). During our Brazos Valley Book Report (2nd Thursday, 7:30-8:30pm) members meet to discuss their current kid-lit reads. We generally also hold one large event per year, as well as webinars and in-person workshops.

Volunteer opportunities:

Our region runs on volunteers! We’re always looking for help, be it as an official member of our Regional Team or as a time-limited volunteer for a specific event. If you’re interested in becoming more involved, please let us know!
